FIRE RISK ASSESSMENT

THE FIRE SAFETY MEASURES, WHICH THE RESPONSIBLE PERSON IS ACCOUNTABLE FOR, INCLUDES:

Measures to reduce the risk of fire occurring and the spread of fire
Detection and warning in the case of fire
Provision and protection of means of escape
Maintenance of facilities, equipment and devices necessary to safeguard human safety
Consideration of dangerous substances
Firefighting measures
Provision of information to employees
Action to be taken in case of fire, including staff training
These measures also extend to suitable provisions, in protecting fire and rescue service personnel, should they attend to fight a fire in the building and measures to identify the effects, of fire on the local environment.

The risk assessment should therefore be undertaken by a ‘competent person’ who has had sufficient training and experience or knowledge and other qualities to enable them to properly implement the measures referred to.
